March against the War

"On Saturday, January 27, 2007, hundreds of thousands poured out onto the streets to tell Congress we have had enough, and to "bring our troops home now." I was so inspired by people of all backgrounds and races. This was America at its best!

I had the privilege to march alongside with 1199SEIU and other brothers and sisters from New York and other places such as Indiana. There wereother states were there as well. I believe this must have been my finest hour with the union as we chanted "there's no time to look around when the union is in town." At least that's what I was yelling. It seemed the more we marched the more I got excited I said to myself this must be what it felt like when Martin Luther King, Jr. marched in Washington.

Now I know what it's all about, people speaking with one voice to bring about a change for all Americans. 1199 SEIU should be commended for being there on the forefront time and time again! You can call on us and we will be there in full force!

When Martin Luther King's holiday came in January, I was watching one of the local programs talking about the Chicago sanitation workers who marched with Dr. King; and wouldn't you know it, there it was "1199" marching for the rights of workers. Stokely Carmichae1 wearing proudly his 1199 hat, and so, it was for us as well as those purple hats standing out in the cold, cameras flashing and hands applauding. Yeah, Congress knows they will not forget those purple hats, and as for me, I'll tell my grandchildren I was there!"
