Education Committees Meet Jointly For First Time

the Monitor Professional Technical Newsletter
On May 17, an historic meeting took place. This was the first ever, comprehensive meeting of all of the Education Committee members who plan Continuing Education seminars for professional disciplines in our Union.

Education CommitteesThe first portion of the meeting was a touching tribute to Ezra Birnbaum, a longtime 1199SEIU member, who retired from social work a few five years ago. He went on to work for the Institute for Continuing Education and is now a consultant within the Union’s Professional and Technical Department. A driving force behind the successes of the Institute, he is relentless in his pursuit of developing exciting and relevant seminars. His work with various Education Committees has resulted in seminars that set a high standard in professional continuing education.

The second portion of the evening was dedicated to planning next year’s Continuing Education Seminars. There are currently Education Committees in the following disciplines: Radiology, Respiratory, Physician’s Assistant, Pharmacy, Dietician, Laboratory, LPN, and Social Work.

The Committees had the challenge of identifying sub-topics for each interdisciplinary seminar, and deciding which four seminars should be video- and web cast. The Institute for Continuing Education will compile the suggested sub-topics, and representatives from all of the Committees will determine the final content of the seminars.

Congratulations and thanks to all of the members involved in the Education Committees for their vital contributions to furthering education for their professions, and for fostering professional pride.

A list of nine topics for interdisciplinary seminars was compiled:
