The death of James Brown touched me deeply because I admired the Godfather of Soul sincerely. I feel very sad. He was unique.

No impact on my life, but I liked some of his songs.

There has been a real lack of minorities in leadership positions in the NY Police Department. I don't think that the Commissioner has one minority leader within the department with whom he seriously consults or even seeks out for advice. This is the problem. His being white is not the problem. His being ethnocentric is.

James Brown has been in my family for many, many years and I love him for always bringing about happiness and good feelings in my home as a child. My mother (RIP) would always play his music when things were overwhelming her with raising the children as a single parent and providing for us. On December 22nd at work, we put on a Talent Show to bring about change in the institution for the holidays and James Brown was our biggest hit. May God continue to keep his soul and may he RIP.

He was an icon in American music. He paved the way for many and set the pace for rap, soul and R&B music. He will truly be missed, but his music will live on forever
