Summary:

Position: Senior Communications Coordinator
Assignment:New Organizing, Baltimore
Reports To:Communications Director
Classification:Permanent

Job Description:

Job Funcions

  • Fulfilling Communication Requests:
    • Work with New Organizing staff to accommodate their campaign communications needs.
  • Strategy, Planning and Follow-through:
    • Create communications strategies, timelines and plans;
    • Track those plans and ensure campaign communications needs and deadlines are being met,
  • Staff Development and Supervision:
    • Oversee the daily work of other New Organizing Communications staff,
    • o Work with the New Organizing Communication Director to regularly evaluate communications staff and ensure they are getting the tools, training and opportunities they need to grow,
    • Fill in and run the Communications Department in the absence of the Director.
  • Literature Production:
    • Write, edit, and design one-page flyers, brochures and other literature.
    • Follow through with vendors to ensure purchase order process is followed and bills are paid in a timely manner,
  • Media Outreach:
    • Write, edit and distribute press releases, letters to the editor, and op-eds.
    • When needed, make outreach calls to reporters and cultivate relationships with media,
    • Train workers and staff to be media spokespeople,
  • Paid Media:
    • Write, edit and produce newspaper and radio ads and other paid media,
  • Video Production:
    • Conceptualize, shoot and edit videos or coordinate with outside video vendors to produce campaign videos.
  • New Media:
    • Work with designer and other team members to produce websites, text messaging campaigns and other new media.

Job Qualifications:

Requirements

Excellent ability to work closely with a team, accommodate request from team members, and assimilate input from multiple sources; Excellent inter-personal skills, a positive, enthusiastic attitude and a commitment to contribute to a positive work environment; An ability and commitment to modeling pro-active leadership behavior and skills; Ability and enthusiasm to take responsibility for whole communications campaigns and see each component through to a successful conclusion; Deep commitment to the labor movement and progressive causes; Excellent visual, written and verbal communications skills; BA or higher; At least 2 years experience working in communications for a progressive political campaign, non-profit organization or Union; Proficiency in word required, experience with design programs such as Quark preferred, proficiency shooting and editing video strongly preferred, ability and willingness to learn media database technology required; Ability to take good quality photos preferred; Must thrive in an environment with tight deadlines, high pressure and irregular hours.
