iSpeak: Sean BellLast week, three NYC police officers were acquitted of all charges in the killing of Sean Bell and the wounding of two companions the night before Bell was to be married. The police fired 51 bullets into a car carrying the three men, who were unarmed. The killing reminded New Yorkers of the death of Amidou Diallo, also unarmed, who was killed by four policemen firing 40 bullets. Young black men are almost exclusively the victims of such police killings, not only in New York but also New Orleans, Los Angeles, Washington DC and other major cities, while the police are nearly always exonerated.
What can be done to stop this? What should be our response to the Sean Bell verdict?
